Mary C. Thomas, 92, of Rockford, passed away on October 20, 2022. She was born on August 30, 1930, in Chicago, the daughter of James E. and Catherine M. (Furlong) Davy. She graduated from Trinity High School, class of 1948, then attended Mundelein College earning her bachelor’s degree in Speech. She married John F. Thomas in Berwyn, IL, on June 27, 1953. She taught second grade for five years before becoming a homemaker. She was a member of Holy Family Catholic Church and devoted her time to the various church’s organizations. She was an active volunteer in all her children’s endeavors and enjoyed bridge with her neighborhood group. John and Mary opened up their home to foster children and foreign exchange students.
She is survived by her children, Patrick Thomas, Karen Hubbard, and Susan Thomas; granddaughter, Jorie Westerlund; great grandsons, Raiden, Tristen, and Koden; great granddaughter, Akaliah; five grand kitties; and many nieces, nephews and cousins. She is predeceased by her parents; husband, John; son, James R. Thomas; and brothers, James and Thomas Davy.
A public visitation will be held on Thursday, October 27, 2022, from 4:00 – 6:00 pm, at Fitzgerald Funeral Home & Crematory, 1860 S. Mulford Road, Rockford, IL 61108. Mass of Christian Burial will be on Friday, October 28, 2022 at 11:00 am at Holy Family Catholic Church, 4401 Highcrest Road, Rockford 61107. A brief visitation will take place prior to mass from 10:15 – 10:45 am. Burial will be in Calvary Catholic Cemetery in Sterling, Illinois.
