Mary C. Downey

Mary Catherine Downey, 92, Rockford, died at 4:00 p.m. Tuesday, October 14, 2008 in P.A. Peterson Center For Health.  Born April 11, 1916 in Rockford, daughter of Leonard R. and Catherine Marie King Condon.  Graduated from Muldoon High School in 1933 and Rosary College in 1937.  Married Jerome J. Downey on February 18, 1939.  Long time member of Cathedral of St. Peter.  She loved people and served her community well as a member of numerous clubs and organizations.  Marys family would like to thank the staff of P.A Peterson Center For Health for the excellent care she was given during her time spent there.   Survivors include her daughter, Catherine (Richard) Wohlenhaus, El Campo, Texas; granddaughters, Jeanine Sawvell, Belvidere and Julie (Brandt) Anderson, Rockford  and great-grandchildren, Andrew Sawvell, Catherine Anderson and Paul Anderson.  Predeceased by her husband on September 16, 1984, her parents and her brother, Leonard.   Mass of Christian Burial at 1:30 p.m. Monday, October 20, 2008 in Cathedral of St. Peter with Rev. Kevin Butler officiating.  Burial in St. Mary/St. James Cemetery.  Visitation from 12:30 p.m. until time of the Mass at the church on Monday.  Arrangements were completed by Fitzgerald Funeral Home & Crematory, Mulford Chapel, 1860 S.
