Mary Beth Allen

Mary Beth Allen, 80, of Cherry Valley, passed away on Monday, May 29, 2023.

Mary Beth was born June 26, 1942 in St. Louis, MO, daughter of Allen and Florence (Williamson) Thompson. She graduated from Muldoon High School, Class of 1960. Mary Beth worked as a teacher’s aide for St. Rita Catholic School and then as secretary for the church. She later worked as secretary for St. James Catholic Church as well for many years. She married Thomas A. Allen on November 9, 1963. Mary Beth was devoted to her faith as a longtime member of St. Rita and most recently, St. James Catholic Church. She volunteered her time as a “pink lady” at OSF St. Anthony Medical Center. She loved knitting, playing the piano, taking care of her flower garden, and making her homemade chocolate chip cookies for the Cherry Valley Fire Department. Mary Beth also enjoyed making memories searching for shells on Bonita Beach near her family condo in Florida. Most of all, she cherished her time spent with family, especially her grandchildren. Mary Beth will be dearly missed.

She is survived by her children, Jill (Carl) Wedig, Vicki (Todd) Ekern and Greg (Loree) Allen; grandchildren, Jordan and Shawn Wedig, Paige and Morgan Leathers and Liam Allen; siblings, David (Candy) Thompson, Ann Marie (Mike) Domico and Chuck (Pam) Thompson; numerous nieces and nephews. The family would like to give a special thank you to Mary Beth’s dear friends, Kathleen Meade, Julie Bredlau, Sue Scott, Laura Nie, Peggy McNeily and Miriam Hunter. Predeceased by her parents, husband, Thomas Allen and sister, Julianna Jessup.

Visitation will be held from 10:00 a.m. until time of service at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, June 6th, 2023, at Fitzgerald Funeral Home & Crematory, 1860 S. Mulford Rd. Rockford, IL 61108. Burial will be in Arlington Memorial Park, Rockford, IL.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the family of Mary Beth Allen to be later established with the Cherry Valley Fire and Police.
