Mary Ann Hirsch, 88, Rockford, passed away on Wednesday, December 11, 2024. She was born on October 11, 1936, in Wapella, IL to Lawrence and Mary (O’Rourke) Toohill. She graduated from Wapella High School in 1954 then St. Joseph School of Nursing in 1957, where she received her degree in nursing. She married Frank J. Hirsch on November 15, 1958, at St. Patrick Church in Wapella IL.
Mary Ann lived in Dixon, IL for 11 years working part time at KSB Hospital. She moved to Rockford in 1970, where she worked at Canfield Clinic for 5 years and then at Brookside Medical Group for 29 years as a Pediatric Nurse.
Outside of her love for Nursing, she found joy in gardening, her children’s sports, and music. She loved to party with family and friends and travel with her husband. She was involved with Catholic Charities and volunteered. She was a member of St. Rita's Catholic Church for many years.
She is survived by her children, Elizabeth "Betty" (Greg Peterson) Hirsch of Libertyville, James "Jim" (Michele Arms) Hirsch of Rockford, Diana (Dan) Rooney of Crystal Lake, Karen (Bob) Holst of Rockford, and Stephen "Steve" (Stacy) Hirsch of Rockford; grandchildren, Corey, Brianna (Josh) and Emily Rose Hirsch, Patrick (Amanda) and Allison Rooney, Lisa (Aaron), Bobby (Ashley), Andrew (Angel), and Sean Holst; great grandchildren, Akalina, Nani, Alamea, Gabriella, Guiliana, Logan, Jaxon, Cameron, Hailey, Hunter, Scarlett, Cabhan and Alice; her brothers, Martin (Sally) Toohill of Clinton, Richard (Nancy) Toohill of Davenport, and Michael (Kathryn) Toohill of Quail Valley; her sisters, Ellen (Paul) Schweri of Chicago, Julia Johnston of Acton, and Winifred (Tom) Adler of Lafayette; and numerous nieces and nephews; she is preceded by her husband, Frank; her sister, Catherine (Tom) Dennis; and her brothers, Lawrence (Bernadine) Toohill of Heyworth, Dr. Robert (Kay) Toohill of Milwaukee, and Don (Cleo) Toohill of Peoria.
A Funeral Mass will take place on Thursday, December 19, 2024, at 11:00 a.m. at St. Rita Catholic Church. Her visitation will take place on Thursday from 10:00 a.m. until the time of Mass at St. Rita Catholic Church. Interment in Arlington Memorial Park Cemetery.
