Marsha Johanna Dahlgren

Marsha Johanna Dahlgren, 63, Rockford, passed away peacefully Tuesday, April 18, 2017. She was born July 20, 1953, in Rockford, the daughter of Marshall and Odessa (Wold) Dahlgren. Marsha earned a biochemistry degree from Lake Erie College and studied briefly at Oxford and Oakland University. She won numerous awards as an equestrian and was invited to the U.S. Equestrian Team tryouts. She was a member of the Wayne-DuPage Hunt Club and rode in England. Marsha was also an All-American honoree… swimmer. She had a long career at Marshall Field and Company and retired from Macy's in 2014. Marsha's lifelong passion was service to the Lutheran church; at Bethlehem Lutheran Church she was a choir director, at Our Savior's Lutheran Church she taught Bible study classes, was an active choir member, and was past chairperson of the Mission Growth Committee with WELCA. Her infectious enthusiasm enriched the lives of many people.

She is survived by her mother, Odessa Dahlgren of Rockford; many dear cousins; aunts and uncles Marilyn Sandstrom, Christian Wold, Wayne Dahlgren, and Rebecca Wold; special friends, Kevin Davis and Pat and Jerry DeWitt. Predeceased by her father, Marshall Dahlgren; her aunts and uncles, Donald Wold, Bud and Helen Dahlgren, Benny Sandstrom, Barbara Peckham, and Betty Dahlgren. Special thanks to Serenity Hospice in Oregon, especially Brenda, April, Dawn, and Susie for their kind and compassionate care.

Memorial services will be held at 11:00 A.M. on Thursday, May 4, 2017, at Our Savior’s Lutheran Church, 3300 Rural St. Rockford, with Reverend Tony Dusso officiating. Visitation will be from 9:30 A.M. until 10:45 A.M. at the church on Thursday. Inurnment will be in the church Columbarium. Memorials may be made to the church or to Serenity Hospice.
