Mark Steven Koenig, 69, of Rockford, peacefully passed away on July 26, 2023.
Born: September 15, 1953, in Austin, Minnesota, the son of Melvin and Eva (Gorke) Koenig. Graduated from West High School, (1971). Mark worked for Liebovich Brothers, and was a software developer for over 20 years, engineer, experienced in communications troubleshooting, and relished fixing anything automotive.
An advocate and follower of Bill W for 37 years. Mark was loyal and selfless, always proud of others, supporting them throughout their journeys. and never gave up!
Mark: a man of sparkling whit and a charming sense of humor: studied everything NASA, SpaceX: numerous space launches, & astronomy. He was so very proud of Ben & Hunter (with Dallas Cowboys). Mark enjoyed cars, especially his 1965 yellow Volkswagen Bug, Nascar, breed golden retrievers, and loved dogs, an avid Chicago Bears fan, & least we forget: Diet Coke: caffeine free; No ice, Please.
Mark gave back to his community: being an advocate at RASA, On The Waterfront: Volunteer of the year 2000. He was, humble, kind, brilliant: always prepared, caring leader. He was an active member of Heartland Church where he was technical captain for Celebrate Recovery.
He is survived by his niece, Jennifer Luepke of Greenwood, Wisconsin; nephews, Steven (Michelle Johnson) Koenig and Benjamin (Tamami Seki); 7 great nieces and nephews, Hunter Luepke Emma Luepke, Carter Luepke, Noa Koenig, Louie Koenig, Ava Koenig, and McKenzie Koenig; special friends, Stephanie Chaffin, and Katie Hansen-Haynes; and many other special friends of Bill W. He is predeceased by his parents and brother, Jay Allen Koenig (2011).
Mark Sorrentino: longtime friend since high school: enjoying going to the races, boating, and could load up the boat in less than a minute!
Visitation: Friday, August 18, 2023, from 10:00 – 11:00 am, at Fitzgerald Funeral Home & Crematory, 1860 S. Mulford Road, Rockford, IL 61108. Service to follow visitation: at 11:00 am. Celebration of life will follow memorial service. In lieu of flowers, memorials to Rockford Rescue Mission, Carpenter’s Place, Friends of Bill W, or the burial fund.
