Marjorie Hedlund

Marjorie Ann "Marge" Hedlund (nee Meier), 86, passed away Friday, November 1, 2013, in SwedishAmerican Hosptial in Rockford. She was born November 10, 1926, in Racine, Wisconsin, the daughter of Ernest and Clara (Prell) Meier. She attended Geneseo schools and graduated in 1944. She earned her BA from Augustana College. She taught elementary school for several years in Sterling and Cambridge. Marge married Richard Hedlund in Geneseo on August 1, 1953. She lived most of her life in Illinois, but did live for several years in Venezuela and subsequently in Germany; she enjoyed learning about different cultures and customs. Marge enjoyed gardening, letter writing, quilting and other handwork. She had a gift for music, the arts, and was known for her beautiful handwritten letters and her infectious smile.
Survived by her loving husband, Dick; her children, Rebecca Hedlund and Howard (Miriam) Hedlund, both of Rockford, Brian (Seonghee) Hedlund of Niwot, Colorado, and Valerie Hedlund of Ames, Iowa; her grandchildren, Alex and Katy Hedlund, her brother, Don (Joan) Meier of Geneseo, her sister, Audrey Inbody of Inverness, and her sister-in-law, Kay Meier of Stockton; many nieces, nephews, and cousins. Predeceased by her parents, her brother, Truman Meier, and her brother-in-law, Noah "Mac" Inbody.
Memorial service will be held on Friday, November 8, 2013, at 1:00 pm at Fitzgerald Funeral Home and Crematory, Mulford Chapel, 1860 S. Mulford Rd. with Reverend Julie Rafferty of Westminster Presbyterian Church officiating. Visitation from 11:30 am until 12:45 am on Friday at the funeral home.
