Marjorie Anne Patterson, 80, of Rockford, passed away July 1, 2017 surrounded by her family. She was born August 14, 1936, in Rockford, Il., daughter of Alfred and Alma (Nelson) Torrisi. She married William E. Patterson on March 9, 1956. Marjorie (known as "Margie" to her family and friends), was a lifelong Rockford resident. After having to quit school in the 8th grade, she began working to help her mother earn money by selling The Green Flash newspaper. Margie eventually became a waitress at Lil's Grill on W. State St., where she met her husband William. In 1975, Margie began a career at Warner Lambert, where she worked 22 years until retiring. Margie possessed many amazing qualities, but she was especially known for her friendliness and love of people. She expressed that love through her sense of humor and the joy she took in bantering and making people laugh. Margie was fiercely loyal, sensitive, strong, selfless and extremely hard working. She brought a fun-loving spirit to everything she did. Margie's big heart and special sprit made her an amazing daughter, sister, wife, friend, mother and grandmother. Margie was always a favorite to children of all ages, as they loved her humor, silliness and unconditional acceptance.
Throughout the last 17 years Margie devoted her time and life in every way to her grandkids, Ryan and Breanna. They were the center of her life and no grandchildren have been loved more. Marjorie was also a loving, devoted mother to her two daughters Debbie and Sharon. Margie loved traveling, attending City First Church, seeing new sights, attending women's basketball games, mowing and manicuring her lawn, taking very long walks with her dog, bowling, going to movies and playing cards.
Marjorie was pre-deceased in January of 2017 by her trusted and loved friend of 40 years, Jerilyn Taylor, with whom Marge shared much of her life. Margie's younger sister, Sandra Burt, brother in law, Tom, and nephew and sister-in law, Tom and Lou Ann, held a precious and loving place in Margie's life, heart and memories. Margie cherished her sister bond and friendship with Sandra with all of her heart.
Margie also cherished her dog Fergie who was her adoring and loyal companion at all times over the last 9 years. Margie has left her heart print on all those who knew and loved her. She is survived by Daughters, Debra Patterson of Greeley, Co., and Sharon Patterson of Rockford, Il; two grandchildren Ryan and Breanna; sister, Sandra Burt and brother-in law Tom Burt; brothers, Danny (Gloria), Earl and Eddie. Also, brothers-in-law, Pete Ivers; sisters-in-law, Gloria, Bonnie and Pat Torrisi, Judith Baker; numerous nieces and nephews.
