Marilyn K. West, 84, of Rockford, IL passed away peacefully on Sunday, December 30, 2018 after a lengthy illness.
Marilyn was born August 28, 1934 in Cherry Valley, IL, daughter of John and Tecla (Anderson) Peacock. She graduated from East High School of Rockford, Class of 1952. Marilyn married Calvin “Cal” West on July 19, 1958 at St. Bridget Catholic Church in Loves Park. He passed away June 6, 2008. Marilyn was a hard worker, devoted to her family. She was employed at Lundholm Surgical Group as a medical secretary for 38 years retiring in December 1999. Marilyn was a devoted wife and mother who treasured time spent with her family, especially on trips to their cabin on Lake Petenwell in Wisconsin where she loved taking long drives to look for deer. They developed lifelong friendships with other cabin owners during their many family vacations at the lake. She and Cal enjoyed traveling, especially to Mexico and Spain. Marilyn was a member of the Cherry Valley Historical Society, the Cherry Street Club and volunteered at the Cherry Valley Public Library. Her hobbies included jewelry making, doing yard work, and watching daily soap operas. Marilyn was a prolific knitter who enjoyed knitting sweaters, socks, scarves and mittens for her family. Marilyn cherished her grandchildren. She became a great grandmother a year ago which brought her so much joy. She loved spending time with her nieces, Jennifer Deitelhoff and Beth Stehley. Marilyn also loved her pets, Molly, Sadie and special grand-dog, Charlie. She will be dearly missed.
Surviving relatives include her three children: Kristine (Richard) Mimier, Mark West and Karin West (John Finnerty); grandchildren, Elizabeth (Lee) Zook, Anna Mimier, Katlin West and Carley West; great-granddaughter, Callee Zook; sister, Marie Stehley of Belvidere; numerous nieces and nephews. She is predeceased by her husband, Cal; brother, Jack Peacock and sister, Betty Hoffman.
Visitation will be held from 11:00 a.m. – 2:00 p.m. on Sunday, January 6, 2018 at Fitzgerald Funeral Home & Crematory, Mulford Chapel, immediately followed by a funeral service at 2:00 p.m. in the funeral home. Private family burial at Arlington Memorial Park Cemetery will take place at a later date.
