Marie B. Sesslar

Marie B. Sesslar, 91, passed away on Friday, October 25, 2024, at her home in Rockford, Illinois. She was born in Baltimore, Maryland on July 8, 1933 to Christian and Elizabeth Bauer. 

Marie was an avid gardener who loved being outdoors tending to her large yard and beautiful gardens. She loved animals and actively cultivated and cared for the wild birds in her yard. In her later years, she doted on her beloved basset hounds and ensured they were well fed and well loved. Marie was a talented crafter and enjoyed sewing, knitting, and basket weaving, often sharing her talents with others. She was an excellent cook and enjoyed making delicious meals for her family. Marie was an active member of the Presbyterian Church throughout her life serving as a deaconess for many years.

On February 22, 1958, she married Donald T. Sesslar in Baltimore, Maryland. They shared 54 years together before his passing in December in 2012. 

Marie is survived by her daughters, Dawn (Terry) Sesslar Claussen of Arlington, Texas, Lynn (John) Sesslar McNeal of Chapel Hill, North Carolina, and Lee (Dennis) Sesslar Bednarz of Rockford; her grandchildren, Paige, Abby, Maddie, Chloe McNeal, and Jack Bednarz. She was predeceased by her parents, sister Christine Powell, and infant daughter Donna Sesslar. 

A service will be held on Friday, November 1, 2024, at 11:00 a.m. at Westminster Presbyterian Church, 2821 N. Bell School Rd. Arrangements by Fitzgerald Funeral Home and Crematory, Mulford Chapel, 1860 S. Mulford Rd. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Westminster Presbyterian Church.
