Marie E. Dohner

Marie Elizabeth Dohner, 86, of Rockford, passed away on Saturday, February 13, 2021.

Marie was born in Orwigsburg, PA on October 12, 1934, daughter of Edward and Ruth (Blankenhorn) Frantz. She graduated from Orwigsburg High School, Class of 1952. Marie met the love of her life and husband, Joe S. Dohner, while square dancing in their local dancing group. They were united in marriage on September 6, 1957 in Pine Grove, PA. Joe passed away on April 7, 1995. Marie then moved to Rockford, IL to be closer to her daughter’s family. She was a longtime member of the Rock Church and was very involved and active in the Wellspring Sr. Group. She took great pride in caring for her home and family. Marie loved cooking, reading, tending to her garden and jarring her produce. She also loved to visit her relatives back in Pennsylvania. Most of all, Marie enjoyed being a grandmother and spending time with her loved ones.

Surviving relatives include her children, David (Kathy) Dohner of Fairbanks, Alaska, Daniel (Robin) Dohner of Indianapolis, Indiana and Deborah (Brent) Thomas of Cherry Valley, Illinois; grandchildren, RuthAnn Dohner, Torrie, Taylor, Taryn and Tessa Thomas; sister, Darlene Henry of Orwigsburg, PA and many nieces and nephews. Marie is predeceased by her parents; husband, Joe Dohner; siblings, Viola Brentari, Shirley Leymeister, Daniel Frantz, Leonard Frantz and grandson, Andrew Dohner.

Cremation rites will be accorded. Private family burial will be held at a later date in Schuylkill Church of the Brethren, Pine Grove, PA. Marie immensely supported so many charities throughout her life.
