Marie C. Gross

Marie C. Gross Mother of Rockford Physician, Jo Ann Holoka, M.D. Loving Wife, Mother, Grandmother and Great-Grandmother Marie C. "Red" Gross, 97, of Rockford, formerly a longtime resident of River Forest, went to be with the Lord on December 27, 2008 at OSF St. Anthony Medical Center. Marie was born November 13, 1911, in Plummer, Minnesota, the daughter of Peter and Sarah (Magnuson) Kolseth. Marie was a Registered Nurse and was a graduate of Lakeview Memorial/Michael Reese School of Nursing, during which time she met Harold Gross. She married Harold on January 5, 1934 in Chicago. Marie raised eight children and retired in 1991 at the age of 81. She was a member of Grace Evangelical Lutheran Church in River Forest, loved sewing, cooking, crafts, gardening, and had a special love for German Shepherds, especially Amber. Marie is survived by her children, Charlene Martin, Dennis Gross, Phyllis Trowbridge, Burton (Teri) Gross, Dr. Jo Ann (Michael) Holoka and Linda (Abdo) Faddoul; her grandchildren, Donald Martin, Tina and Ronald Trowbridge, Rebecca "Becky" Fluchel, Jeffrey Gross, Joseph "Joey" and Michelle Faddoul, Beverly Holoka, and five great-grandchildren. Marie was predeceased by her parents, her husband, Harold (Jan.7. 1980), her sons, Donald and Jerome "Jerry" , her daughter, Marlene and her brothers, Carl and Elmer. Funeral services for Marie will be held on Wednesday, December 31, 2008 at 11:30 A.M. at Grace Evangelical Lutheran Church, 7300 W. Division St., River Forest, IL with Rev. Lueking officiating. Burial will follow in Lakewood Memorial Park Cemetery in Elgin. Visitation will be held on Tuesday, December 30, 2008 from 4 8 P.M. at Fitzgerald Funeral Home & Crematory, Mulford Chapel, 1860 S. Mulford Rd., Rockford and on Wednesday, December 31 from 11:00 A.M. until time of service at the church. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to LesTurner ALS Foundation, 5550 W.
