Marian (Mimi) Holmgren

Marian (Mimi) Holmgren, 97, passed away peacefully on March 12, 2022 in Rockford, IL. She was born November 24, 1924 to Ernest and Cecelia (Cuchna) Larsen in Chicago, IL. On September 4, 1947 she married the love of her life, Marshall Holmgren and they celebrated 71 years of marriage together until his death in 2018. Mimi loved to entertain, was an avid golfer, a diehard Packer fan and a wonderful wife, mother, mother-in-law, grandmother and great grandmother and the eldest of a large contingent of close knit Cuchna cousins. She worked several years in administration at Rockford College and also for the Rockford Park District where she made many great friends and memories before retiring in 1986. She and Marshall were members of Shepherd of the Valley Lutheran Church and enjoyed singing together in the choir and participating actively in church events.
Mimi is survived by her son David (Janet) Holmgren and daughter Holly (Larry) Paul; grandchildren Tina Paul, Laura (Brian) Shepherd, Peter (Sydney) Holmgren, and Eric (Elana) Holmgren; great grandchildren Madison, Lily, Mia, Tynne, Cole and Jimmy; special friend and caregiver Diann Glover; and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins. She is predeceased by her parents, husband, and brother Ernest Larsen Jr.
The family would like to offer special thanks to Northern Illinois Hospice for the special care they provided to Mimi. No services will be held at this time but a celebration of Mimi’s life may be held at a later date. Memorials in honor of Mimi may be made to Northern Illinois Hospice or Shepherd of the Valley Lutheran Church. The family was assisted by Fitzgerald Funeral Home & Crematory, Mulford Chapel.
