Marian Eileen Cobb

Marian Eileen Cobb passed away peacefully in her sleep,  Wednesday, Jan. 27, 2010 at Rockford Memorial Hospital. Born October 13, 1922 in Kewanee, IL to Vera and Corbin Hazelleaf. She was married to the late Charles Cobb.  Marian was a long time, respected educator in Rockford schools . She began her teaching career at Kewanee High School. After moving to Rockford in 1950, she taught at Muldoon Girls School, Roosevelt Junior High School and finished her career at head guidance counselor at East High School, retiring in 1985. Marian earned her education degree from Western Illinois University in 1944. She received a Masters degree from northern Illinois University and advanced education study at Rockford College and University of Illinois. Marian was a 50 year member of Court Street United Methodist church where she taught Sunday  School for 12 years and was chairman of the Foreign Missions Committee. She served on the board at the YWCA, the Rock Valley College Foundation Board, the Rockford Memorial Hospital Auxiliary Board and the RocVale Childrens Home Board. She was a member of PEO Sisterhood, Delta kappa Gamma Teacher Honorary Sorority, and Alpha Sigma Alpha Social Sorority. Member of Rockford Country Club where she served as president of both 9-hole and 18-hole ladies golf association. Marian had a passion for golf and loved her winters spent in Arizona. Survived by her children John (Diane) Cobb of Rockford and Carol Markham of Newnan, GA; grandchildren, Bradley (Angie) Markham and Matthew (Carrie ) Markham of Newman GA; step grandchildren, Beth (Gary) Hague and Andy (Darcell) Saunders of Rockford; great grandchildren Davis Markham and Avery Markham;  step great grandchildren, Jaleel, Adam, Jernie and Joey Saunders, Emma and Karra Hague; sister, Shirley Brown of Chicago and several nieces and nephews.  Preceded in death by her parents, husband and son-in-law, Scott Markham. The family would like to express great appreciation for the kind, professional care provided by the staff at Rockford Memorial Hospital and Wesley Willows. A celebration of Marians life will be held on Saturday, Jan. 30, 2010 at 4:00 p.m. at Court Street United Methodist Church, 215 N. Court St. Rockford,IL. In lieu of flowers memorials to the church or a charity of your choice.
