Maria J. Blake, 85, of Cherry Valley, passed away peacefully, surrounded by family, October 13, 2018. Born December 22, 1932 in Jalisco, Mexico; she was the daughter of Alpolonio and Anselma (Segalla) Vicencio.
A member of St. Edwards Catholic Church, Maria retired from Admiral Corporation after 20 years of employment.
She enjoyed word search, watching the Price Is Right, Family Feud and Comisario Rex, collecting penguins and spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren.
Survivors include her children, Carlos (Jeri) Blackman, Veronica (James) Floyd and Anita (Gus) Weiland; 20 grandchildren and 36 great-grandchildren; sisters, Lola Guzman and Lupe (Ray) Castro; brothers, John (Linda) and Jessie (Debbie) Vicencio; special friend, Amado Ortega and numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; son, Mario Blackman; sister, Salarina Gonzales and brothers, Joe and Tony Vicencio.
The family would like to give special thanks to OSF St. Anthony Hospital and OSF Hospice for the wonderful care given to Maria.
Funeral mass 11:00 a.m. Monday, October 22, 2018 at St. Rita Catholic Church, 6254 Valley Knoll Drive, Rockford. Visitation 5 until 8 p.m. with a Rosary at 7:30 p.m. Sunday, October 21, 2018 at Fitzgerald Funeral Home & Crematory, 1860 S. Mulford Rd., Rockford. Visitation will continue from 10 a.m. until time of service at the church Monday, October 22, 2018. Burial in Sunset Memorial Gardens, Machesney Park.
