Marguerite E. Burton

Marguerite E. Burton, 104, of Rockford, passed away on March 29, 2018 in Rosewood Care Center.

Born August 30, 1913 in Elk Grove Township, Elk Grove, Wisconsin; daughter of William and Margaret Cullen Coulthard. She lived 78 years in Rockford coming from Cuba City, Wisconsin in 1940. Married Virgil Burton in Dubuque, Iowa on September 26, 1940, he died in May 1968. Marguerite worked for F.W. Woolworth Co. retiring in 1982 after 30 years. She did volunteer work for 12 years at care a van for retired senior citizens. She was a member of St. Edward Catholic Church since 1940 and also a member of Victory Homes Association since 1944. Graduated from Cuba City, Wisconsin high school, Class of 1932. Marguerite had many hobbies which included baking her famous pies and cookies, crocheting afghan’s, her flowers and reading books. She spent a great deal of her time with her grandchildren and will be greatly missed. Special thanks to her caregivers, Shannon, Sheila, Michelle, Jill, Susann and Molly for all of their loving care and support.

Survivors include son, Bruce (Charlotte) Burton of Rockford; daughter, Donna Claeyssen of Cherry Valley; grandchildren, Jeff Claeyssen (Julie Kaiser) and Brian Claeyssen (Jill Winterland), both of Cherry Valley, Susann Claeyssen of Belvidere and Doug (Mayumi) Burton of Rockford; great-grandchildren, Sean Claeyssen, Luciana and Ilaria Burton; great-great grandchild, Carmyn Claeyssen; sister, Helen Wiegman of Cuba City, WI; special friend, Kathy Walling; several nieces and nephews. Predeceased by her parents, husband, son-in-law, Frank Claeyssen; grandson, Bradley Claeyssen; brothers, John, Raymond, Harold and Robert; sisters, Hazel and Mary; sisters-in-law, Pearl and Renilda and brother-in-law, John Wiegman.

Funeral service will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Wednesday, April 4 at Fitzgerald Funeral Home & Crematory, 1860 S. Mulford Road, Rockford, IL 61108 with visitation from 12:00 p.m. until time of service at the funeral home. Private burial will be held at Calvary Catholic Cemetery.
