Margit Elisabeth Hancock

Margit Elisabeth Hancock, age 75, passed away Wednesday, August 9, 2017, in her home in Rockford surrounded by her family after a long struggle with cancer.
She was born January 28, 1942, in Gleiwitz, Germany, the daughter of Franz and Martha (Wylezich) Huebner. Margit married Larry S. Hancock on May 8, 1959, in Straubing, Germany. Margit was educated in Germany, furthered her education in the United States and was proud to obtain duel citizenship. She worked at Chrysler for a number of years and ended her career as a waitress at OTB in Rockford after 20+ years of service. Margit loved her cats and enjoyed bowling, playing cards, bird watching, and gardening. She loved her family and her friends .She is survived by her beloved husband of 58 years, Larry: her daughter, Patti Baxter of Cherry Valley; her son, Michael (Jodie) Hancock of Rockford; her three grandchildren, Brad (Ashley) Hancock, Brittni (Philip) Burton, and Stephen (Paige) Baxter; her five great grandchildren Carson, Parker, Morgan, Micah, and Finley; her sister, Wally (Erwin) Jaeschke and her brother, Waldi (Gaby) Huebner. She was preceded in death by her parents, Franz and Martha Huebner, her sister, Friedl (Peppi) Markgraf, her son-in-law, Brent Baxter. The family would like to thank the doctors, nurses, and staff at OSF Health Systems along with her in home caregivers for their compassion, caring, and support to Margit and her family.
A Memorial service will be held at 7:00 P.M. on Monday, August 14, 2017, at Fitzgerald Funeral Home and Crematory, Mulford Chapel, 1860 S. Mulford Rd. Visitation will be held from 5:00 P.M. until 7:00 P.M. on Monday at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made in Margit’s name to the American Cancer Society.
