Margaret “Peggy” Metz, of Rockton, Illinois passed away, March 17, 2018 at Highview in the Woodlands. She was the widow of Harold E. Metz. They shared 58 years of marriage. Peggy was truly devoted to Harold and he was truly devoted to her.
Born in Rockford, Illinois, she was the daughter of Reno and Albina (Blazis) Rigotti. Peggy graduated from Hononegah High School in 1954 where she was a Cheerleader and Homecoming Queen. She was employed early in her marriage at J.I. Case Company and Taylor Freezer, where she was an executive secretary. Peggy spent the majority of her life as a mother to her girls and a partner to Harold.
She was a member of St. Bernadette’ Church in Rockford. Peggy was a member of the Model “A” club, an interest she shared with Harold. Among her many interests, Peggy enjoyed traveling and crafting. She enjoyed making quilts and “Santa’s” for her friends and family. It was very important to her that she leave something behind for people to remember her. Peggy learned to play the organ later in life and spent time performing at restaurants and social functions.
Peggy is survived by her daughters, Deborah Long of Rockton, Lisa (Roland) Ingalls of Rockford, grandchildren, William Ingalls and Alyson Long, sister Janice Burkins and many nieces and nephews. Peggy was blessed to have so many wonderful friends and special cousin Judy Bates. She is predeceased by her husband, Harold, brothers, Robert and Donald Rigotti and parents.
Funeral mass will be at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, March 24, 2018 at St. Bernadette Catholic Church. Visitation will be on Friday from 3:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. at Fitzgerald Funeral Home & Crematory, Riverside Chapel, 3910 North Rockton Avenue. Burial in Rockton Cemetery.
