Margaret “Peggy” Bell, 92, of Rockford, IL, passed away peacefully in her home on May 29, 2020.
Peggy was born in Gregory, SD, on May 30, 1927, daughter of the late Daniel and Helen Flynn. She attended St. James School and Muldoon High School. She married her best friend, Robert “Bob” Bell on October 29, 1949, with whom she spent 52 loving years before he died in 2001.
Peggy was a natural at retail sales, starting at Green Stamps. She later managed Chas Ackerman and Carol Snyder, two of Rockford’s ladies clothing shops. After she retired, she was a member of St. James Elders and the Cornucopia Pantry. She also volunteered as a Eucharistic minister at Swedish American Hospital.
Peggy’s greatest affection, however, was for her loved ones. She had a passion to be a mother to all she met. Beyond everything, her faith was what drove her every thought and action. She was a devout Catholic with an intense devotion to the Blessed Mother, to whom she prayed the Holy Rosary every single day.
She is survived by her two daughters, Debbie (David) Myers and Theresa (Jamie) Stukenberg, adopted daughter Susan Skinner, granddaughters, Rebecca (Todd) Dixon and Melissa Myers Castaneda, seven great-grandchildren, and many additional nieces, nephews and their families, dear friends the Apolloni family, Vivian Borkus and Marilyn and Bob Fox. Along with her beloved Bob, Peggy is pre-deceased by brother, James Flynn, and sisters, Mary Ann Connors, Helen “Cookie” Sublette and Joan “Ruth” Williams.
The family would like to extend special thanks to our friend, Genese Pride, for taking such good care of Peggy and appreciation to Marilyn with OSF Hospice.
A private Mass of the Lord's Resurrection will be celebrated by Father David Beauvais in St. James Church. Burial in Arlington Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. James Church or your charity of choice. Share online condolences at www.fitzgeraldfh.com.
