Margaret E. Smith

Margaret E. Smith, 86, of Rockford passed away Monday, June 19, 2017 at Willows Health Center. Born February 1, 1931 in Oak Park, Illinois, the daughter of William and Eleanor (Taylor) Grady. Margaret married Gordon Smith on October 30, 1954 in Franklin Park. She worked for the Veterans Administration, Hertz Rental Car and as a secretary for the Lake Zurich School District, retiring after 20 years. Margaret also volunteered for hospice. Margaret enjoyed ceramics and playing the hand bells. She was a member of Aldersgate United Methodist Church.
Survived by her husband, Gordon; daughter, Janet (David) Becker of Huntley; son, David (good friend, Dee) Smith of Lake Charles, Louisiana; grandchildren, Hannah (Caleb), Michael and Christy; cousins, Joan and Joyce, nieces and nephews. Predeceased by her parents and siblings, John Grady, Annette Pierce and Mavis Carr.
Memorial service will be at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, September 20, 2017 at Schapville Zion Presbyterian Church, 635 E. Schapville Road, Elizabeth, Illinois 61028.
