Margaret M. Amerine

Margaret M. Amerine, 92, of Rockford, passed away peacefully on Saturday, July 27, 2024, surrounded by family. She was born on May 31, 1932, the daughter of Samuel Marino and Virginia Caruana. She married Rowan Amerine in Rockford on July 17, 1959. They raised four children together until he passed away in 1986. They were married for 27 years.

When Margaret was not working as a manager for the Rockford School District food service, she loved to be creative and spent her time sewing, knitting, crocheting, cooking, gardening and canning. She had a love for cats and for some time, she enjoyed candle making and working with ceramics. Margaret was a parishioner at St. Anthony and then at St. Patrick Catholic Church where she was a long-time member of the Silver Shamrocks. She later joined St. Bernadette Catholic Church.

She is survived by her children, Virginia, JoAnna (Steve), Michael (Dana Carpenter), and Timothy; her granddaughter, Jackie (Shane); grandson, Johnathon; her great grandson, Nathan; sister-in-law, Ann Marino; and her many nieces and nephews; she is predeceased by her husband, Rowan; and her brother, Carl Marino. A special thanks to OSF Hospice Team, Visiting Angels and a close family friend.

A Funeral Mass for Margaret will be held on Friday, August 2, 2024, at St. Bernadette Catholic Church at 11:00 a.m. The visitation will be held from 10:00 a.m. until the time of Mass at 11:00 a.m. Burial is to follow at Calvary Catholic Cemetery.
