Mae Ellen Skubal

Mae E. Skubal, 91, of Rockford, passed away peacefully on Sunday, January 8, 2017 at her home. She was born on March 30, 1925 in Milwaukee, WI, the daughter of Benjamin and Katherine (Gerdis) Halvorsen. She met the love of her life, John J. Skubal and the two married on May 10, 1952. Mae was an avid reader, often participating in the book club at Siena on Brendenwood. She was a kind, and generous woman with a gentle smile. She quietly made each person she met feel special. Above all else, she was completely devoted to her family. Her grandchildren and great grandchildren were the light of her life.

She is survived by her children, Mary (Kevin) Petersen, Robert Skubal, and Kathleen (Chris) Korab; her grandchildren, Kristin (Mark) Kunzman, Katie Petersen, Kerri Petersen, Lionel (Danielle) Weaver, Jeff (Kristen) Korab, Andrew (Sara) Korab, Steven (Nadine) Korab, David Korab, Benjamin Korab, Rebecca (Jay) Blackman, and Daniel (Veronica) Skubal; her great grandchildren, Sadie Kunzman, Remy Kunzman, Cormac Weaver, Anna Korab, Lucy Korab, Jack Korab, Emma Blackman, and Benjamin Blackman; her sister, Carol Phillips; brother, David Halvorsen; and many nieces and nephews. She is predeceased by her husband, her son, John S. Skubal, parents, brother, Gerald Halvorsen, and daughter in-law, Lorie Skubal.

A Funeral Mass will be held on Wednesday, January 11, 2017 at 11:00 a.m. at Holy Family Catholic Church. A visitation will be held from 9:30 a.m. until time of service.
