Lyman W. Bassett, 91, of Rockford, IL died at home on August 9, 2021. Born February 4, 1930 in Chicago, IL, the son of Henry and Gertrude Zietlow Bassett.
Lyman served in the Illinois National Guard, and had a long career as a Payroll Accountant. He was a member of St. Bernadette Catholic Church, and served as the Treasurer for the St. Bernadette Senior Association. Lyman loved the Green Bay Packers and also enjoyed computing, shooting sports and camping.
Lyman is survived by his wife of 44 years, Frances; children, Charles Bassett, Lawrence (Julie) Bassett, and Gweneth (Joe) Galvan; grandchildren, Christopher (Mary), Elliott, Steve, Thomas, Cliff, Trevor and Nick and great-granddaughters Lyndsey, Lily and Josephine. Predeceased by his parents, and daughter-in-law, Mary Joe Bassett.
The Bassett family wishes to give special thanks to all of the earth angels at Mercy Health at Home Hospice, caregiver Kristina Sylla, and close family friends Frances Wiegers and Diane Cattani.
Memorial Mass will be at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, August 23, 2021 at St. Bernadette Catholic Church, 2400 Bell Avenue, Rockford, IL 61103. Please observe church guidelines regarding masks and social distancing. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in Lyman’s name to Boys Town.
