Lyle O. Lester, 92, of Rockford passed away Sunday, January 27, 2019 surrounded by his loving family. Born January 7, 1927, in Smithville, Oklahoma, the son of John Henry and Emmie (Burgess) Lester. Lyle was a veteran who proudly served in the United States Army during World War II. Lyle married Catherine Mullens on October 25, 1952. Lyle worked in the foundry at Greenlee Textron, retiring after 25 years. Lyle was a faithful member of Calvary Baptist Church. He was also a member of the American Legion and the Rockford Sportsman Club. Lyle enjoyed fishing and hunting.
Survived by his wife, Catherine; children, Russ (Cheryl) Lester and Louise (LeRoy) White; grandchildren, Danielle (Juston) Stratemeyer, Travis (Danielle) Lester, Keith (Stephanie) Lester and Edward Hutson; great-grandchildren, Drake Hutson, Brendon Stratemeyer, Neil Stratemeyer, Joel Stratemeyer and Everly Lester and several nieces and nephews. Preceded in death by his parents, brother, Ray, Bill, Chester and Allen, sisters, Hazel Davis and Mary Davis, and daughter, Roselena Mullens.
Funeral service will be at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, February 1, 2019 at Calvary Baptist Church, 6286 Linden Road, with visitation starting at 10:00 a.m. Burial in Byron Cemetery.
