Lucille M. Harvey, 95, of Byron passed away Monday, January 19, 2009 in Neighbors Nursing Home. Born January 13, 1914, the daughter of Willard and Daisy (Banks) Mills. Her family lived on a farm on Guilford Road. Lucille went to Lincoln Junior High and was a 1932 graduate of Rockford Central High School. She married Bert E. Harvey on Dec. 1, 1934. He predeceased her on February 16, 1972. She was a beauty operator and worked before and after she was married for many years. She helped her husband build their house on North Alpine Road when it was on the edge of town. For many years she did vision and hearing testing in the public schools and was also a room mother, Girl Scout Leader and a part-time librarian. She was an election judge for over 30 years and a 50 year member of the O.E.S. She did china painting and loved to bowl. She was on a bowling league until 2003. Lucille loved to read, crochet and sew. She made hundreds of stuffed animals for family and friends. Lucille loved traveling and had been to most of the states in the U.S. including Alaska and Hawaii. She had also been to Australia, Japan, China, Russia, Europe, Scandinavia, Canada, the British Isles and South America. Survivors include son Lee E. Harvey of MN and daughter Beth L. (John) Wemmer of Loves Park. Grandsons George (Jodi) Harvey of MN, Andy Wemmer of Chicago, Alex (Holly) Wemmer of Rockford. Great-grandchildren Ella and Sawyer Harvey and step-great- granddaughters Addison and Fiona. She is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews. Predeceased by her parents, husband, daughter-in-law Nita, sisters Alice Woodruff, Florence Flanigan, Martha Lyford and brother Arthur Mills. The family wishes to thank the nurses and staff at Neighbors Nursing Home in Byron for the wonderful care given to their mom during her stay there. Funeral service will be Friday, January 23, 2009 at 11:00 a.m. in Fitzgerald Funeral Home amp; Crematory, Mulford Rd., Rockford, Il 61108 with the Rev. Dr. William R. Kerr, Sr. officiating.
