Luba Bremer, age 90, of Rockford, passed away peacefully on Monday, March 4, 2024, surrounded by her loving family.
Luba was born on May 16, 1933, in Bielen, (Poland) Belarus, daughter of Aleksander and Aleksandra Soroka. She emigrated to the United States with her family in 1949, arriving in the Port of New Orleans. The family picked cotton for six months in Arkansas until they paid off their boat fare from Europe and eventually made their way to Rockford; settling on the city’s southeast side. Luba was a founding and devoted member of Christ the Savior Orthodox Church, singing in the choir for more than 60 years. Her commitment to her church was a testament to her strong faith and love for community. One of Luba's proudest accomplishments was her work ethic. Alongside her sister Sophia, she worked tirelessly at Elco Textron from 1979 until retirement in 1997. The sisters never missed a day of work during their 18 years together. Prior to Elco, they also worked together at Hoffman House Restaurant. Luba's love story with her husband Ralph began at Rockford Products where they met at a water fountain. They were married on November 14, 1953, and enjoyed nearly 55 years of marriage.
She is survived by her children, Michael Bremer, Donna (Steve) Saunders and Jeffrey (Laura) Bremer; grandchildren, Kyle (Kelly) Saunders, Ryan (Nicole) Saunders, Kelly (Andy) Clark, Andrea, William Cramer and Morgan Cramer; great-grandchildren, Hudson, Henry, Breana, Blayne, Elaina and Olivia; numerous nieces and nephews along with special friends Halina Wojtowicz and Lidia Rakuc. Luba is predeceased by her parents, husband Ralph, brothers Michael, Ivan, Stefan and sisters Mary and Sophia.
The visitation will be held from 9:00 a.m. until time of the funeral service at 10:30 a.m. on Friday, March 8th, 2024, at Christ the Savior Orthodox Church in Rockford. Burial will conclude at Greenwood Cemetery. Special thanks to Northern Illinois Hospice (Stacy and Katie) and loving caregiver, Elvia. Memorials to Christ the Savior Orthodox Church.
