Louis Schiro

Louis Schiro, 88 of Rockford, passed away Monday October 28, 2013 at his home. He was born December 8, 1924, in Rockford, the son of Salvatore and Frances Schiro. He was a veteran of the US Navy serving in the South Pacific during WW II. After the war, Louie married his childhood sweetheart, Ella White, at St. Anthony's Church on July 14, 1946. Louie was a devoted and loving husband, father, grandfather, uncle, and friend. He enjoyed baseball from playing on a city championship team to following the Cubs throughout his life. Louie was a member of the Midwest Operating Engineers and retired from the Illinois Tollway in 1993. He was a member of St. Anthony Church and the Senior Holy Name Society. Louie was a good man with a great laugh and wonderful stories. We will miss him.
Survivors include his wife Ella of Rockford. Daughters; Carol (Kent) Gustafson and Frances (Walt) Kargol. Grandson, Jeff (Sharon) Edmunds. Great grandsons, Josh, Jacob and Kaleb Edmunds. Sister-in-law, Stella (Leonard) Virgili. Cousin Joe (Marilyn) Gulotta Special niece, Fran (Ron) Tomlinson. Special nephew Ernie (Chris) Huey. Special friend, Sam Cipolla. Numerous nieces & nephews Predeceased by his parents. Brothers, John, Anthony, Jack and Joe Schiro. Sister, Mary Huey.
Mass of Christian Burial at 10am Saturday November 2, 2013 in St Anthony Church with the Franciscan Friars officiating. Burial in Calvary Cemetery.
