Lois C. Doherty

Lois C. Doherty, 86, of Rockford passed away Tuesday, January 10, 2017. Born April 1, 1930, in West Brooklyn, Illinois, the daughter of Albert and Edith Bieschke. Lois married Patrick Doherty on February 11, 1956 in Rockford. She graduated from St. Anthony School of Nursing. Lois went on to work as an RN for St. Anthony Hospital and retired from Rockford Surgical Service. She was a member of St. Bernadette Catholic Church.
Survived by her children, Patrick T. Doherty of Rockford, Colleen (Kevin) McQuillan of Naperville, Michael (Georgia) Doherty of Machesney Park, Sean Doherty of Rockford, Maureen Pettit of Glen Ellyn, Daniel (Susan) Doherty of St. Charles and Kathleen (Sean) O’Keefe of Machesney Park; grandchildren, Sean and Keegan McQuillan, Aidan, Declan and Brigid Pettit and Quinn, Jack and Kate Doherty; step-grandchildren, Shavon Osmond, Marie Blackshear and Riley and Kelly O’Keefe; sister, Marie Ruhland and numerous nieces and nephews. Predeceased by her husband, sisters, Leah and Charlotte and brother, Roger. The Doherty Family would like to give a special thank you to the staff at River Bluff Nursing Home for their care and compassion, especially the Eagle Wing.
Funeral Mass will be at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, January 14, 2017 at St. Bernadette Catholic Church. Visitation from 4:30 p.m. until 8:00 p.m., with a Christian Prayer Service at 7:30 p.m. on Friday at Fitzgerald Funeral Home & Crematory, Mulford Chapel. Visitation will continue on Saturday from 9:00 a.m. until 9:45 a.m. at the church. Burial in Calvary Catholic Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association, Boylan High School GSB Scholarship Fund or Carpenter’s Place.
