Lita Sherman, 92, lifelong Rockford resident, died on Thursday, July 25th in her home surrounded by family. Lita was born December 11, 1931 to Ercole and Ada Ferri. Lita graduated from West High School in 1947. She married Vince Sherman on September 1, 1952 at St. Anthony of Padua Catholic Church.
Lita spent her career in banking, starting at Illinois National right out of high school. She spent the remainder of her career working in banking, retiring from Amcore Bank in 1994. Lita loved bingo, playing cards with her friends and family and playing bocce. She was an active member of the Ladies Auxiliary at the St. Ambrogio Society for many years, even serving as president multiple times. Lita played in the ladies and couples bocce league every week along with her husband, son, daughter, grandson and granddaughters. Lita was one-of-kind; everyone who knew her loved her. She was a lady of class and a force to be reckoned with, but more importantly she loved her family very much and was a huge part of their lives.
Lita is survived by her family that loved her deeply: daughter, Debra Zander; son, Charles Sherman (Lisa); grandchildren, Chad Zander (Tia), Jamie Zander-Tarara (Sal), Natalie Zander, Amy Sherman and Olivia Sherman; great-grandson, Stefani, and numerous nieces and nephews. Predeceased by her husband, Vince Sherman; parents, Ercole and Ada Ferri; brother Dan Ferri; parents-in-law, Charles (Josephine) Sherman; brothers-in-law, Sam (Marie) Sherman, Tony (Jackie) Sherman, Joseph (Shirley) Sherman; sister-in-law, Dorothy Hendricks.
Lita’s family would like to give a special thanks to Anna and Marty from Northern Illinois Hospice, in addition to caregivers Sherry “Cici” Anderson, Mary Sanders, and Christina Anderson for their compassionate care. Also, loving thanks to supportive friends that were family, Steve Zander, Paul Saporiti, and Sean Connelly.
