On August 2, 2019, Lisa (Smith) Scribner received her angel wings, surrounded by her loving family, after a courageous battle with metastatic colon cancer. She was born June 8, 1981 in Rockford, Illinois, to Douglas and Lana (Barmore) Smith. She graduated from Lutheran High School in 1999. She earned her degree in Psychology from Western Illinois University and went on to receive her Masters in Social Work at the University of Illinois. On July 28, 2007, she married her best friend and soulmate, Nicholas Scribner. Together they raised three beautiful children, Liviya, Colton and Jace. Lisa worked at Popular Grove Elementary School as a social worker, a job she truly loved. She was a member of Christ UMC and a dedicated member of Amazon Prime!! Lisa dedicated her life to educating others on her battle with cancer. She started a Facebook page, “Lisa Smith Scribner’s Fight”. She had over a thousand followers. She was an advocate of hope and an inspiration for others.
Survivors include her loving husband, Nick; children, Liviya, Colton and Jace; mother, Lana Smith; sister, Dana (Tyler) Palmer and their children, Alexandra, Avery and Tyson; Paternal grandfather, A.Nelson Smith, father-in-law, Curt (Jennifer) Scribner; mother-in-law Bonnie(Ron) Zimmerman and several aunts, uncles and cousins. She was predeceased by her father, Douglas Smith, maternal grandparents, Paul and Kathleen Barmore and paternal grandmother, Barbara Smith.
The family would like to thank the staff at Swedish American’s cancer center for the kindness they showed her during her chemo treatments, JourneyCare for everything they did to help, and they would like to give very special thank you to Dr. Christopher Seder, from Rush Memorial, who went above and beyond to help her fight this battle. We will forever be grateful to him!
Funeral services will be at Fitzgerald Funeral Home on Mulford Road. Visitation will be on Thursday, August 8th, from 5pm to 7pm. Funeral services on August 9th at 12:30pm.
