Lis M. Allen

Lis M. Allen, 101, passed away on March 22, 2023, in Rockford, Illinois. Born in Copenhagen, Denmark on September 13, 1921, daughter to Michael and Amelia (Delacour) Jensen. She lived under German occupation and immigrated to the United States in the 1950s, where she attended Columbia University. During her lifetime she lived in Denmark, New York, and Germany before settling in Chicago. She fluently spoke Danish, German, French, and English and used her artistic abilities in her work as an interior designer. She had a passion for fashion and would never be seen with gray hair or without her nails or makeup done. Her outfits were always meticulously put together and her make-up and jewelry had to match. Her favorite days were dining outdoors with friends or family with her glass of Scotch. She lived an active lifestyle that included swimming, skiing, and tennis. She loved visiting Captiva Island in Florida and adding to her vast seashell collection.

She is survived by her son, John (Mary Ann) Allen; her grandchildren Elizabeth (Mike) Falls and Carrie Allen; great-grandchildren Elliot and Emmett Falls, and her family in Denmark. She is predeceased by her partner Donald Hammond, her parents, and siblings Ronna Jensen and Tage Jensen.

A funeral service will take place on April 7, 2023, at 11 a.m. at Fitzgerald Funeral Home, 1860 S. Mulford Road, Rockford, Illinois 61103.
