Linda Claire Brown

Linda Claire Brown, 66, Loves Park, passed away Thursday, February 13, 2014, in her home surrounded by her loving family. She was born July 10, 1947, in St. Louis, MO, the daughter of Karl and Katherine (House) Horter. Linda graduated with her Bachelor's degree from Culver- Stockton College in Canton, MO and earned her Master's in Education from St. Xavier University. Linda married Micheal Brown in Rockford on July 12, 1980. She taught 2nd grade in the Rockford School District at Guilford Center Grade School and later at Gregory Grade School and most recently at Maude Johnson Grade School, before retiring in 2005. She was a member of Grace Lutheran Church. Linda was a passionate golfer and played in the Women's League at Sandy Hollow Golf Course. She enjoyed reading and also traveling with her husband.
Survived by her husband of 33 years, Micheal; her son, Bruce (Tonya) Brown of Rockford and their children, Michael and Miranda, her son, Brian (Mindy) Brown of Rockford and their children, Scott, Abby, and Emma, and her daughter, Michelle Newman of Amherst, WI; her sister, Ann (John) Holub; her sisters-in-law, Mary Melody and Joan Horter ; her nieces, Rose Melody and her daughter, Desi, and Patty (Frank) Conway. Predeceased by her son Matthew on January 1, 2009, and her son-in-law, Jon Newman.
Funeral services will be at 11:00 a.m., Monday, February 17, 2014, at Grace Lutheran Church, 343 Grand Av, Loves Park with Reverend Brent Dahlseng officiating. Visitation will be from 4:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. Sunday, February 16, 2014, at Fitzgerald Funeral Home and Crematory, Riverside Chapel, 3910 N. Rockton Av. and again from 10:00 a.m. until 10:45 a.m. on Monday at the church. Memorials may be made to the church or Northern Illinois Hospice, 4215 Newburg Rd. Rockford, 61108.
