Lily Obando Canonigo

Peregrina ”Lily” Obando Canonigo passed away on December 14, 2023. She passed peacefully at home surrounded by her loving family. 

Born in Naga City, Philippines on December 11, 1930. She lived in Cebu and Davao, Philippines, later moving to Rockford, IL in 1989. She worked at Anderson Packaging for 10 years. She enjoyed family gatherings, playing Mahjong with her daughters, flowers and gardening.

She married Engr. Romeo Canonigo Sr. (deceased), and pre-deceased by all 14 siblings and her parents. She is survived by nine children: Nathaniel (Grace) Canonigo, Romeo (Christine) Canonigo Jr., Brenda (Dennis) Unger, Rolando (Olivia) Canonigo, Roxane (Andres) Oropa, Edna (Jimmie) Unger, Riza (Jonathan) Sumampong, Peter (Sharon) Canonigo, Lourdes (Roger) Sexton. She is survived by 17 grandchildren Daryl (Rachel), Danielle, Jared, Susie (Kyle), Rachel, Joshua, Isabel, Zander, Zaiden, Roxanne, Bjorn, Meryll (Jess), Arvin (Jomay), Aldrick, Sharayah (Ralph), Jedidiah, Rebekah and 8 great-grandchildren Joey, Brian, Sierra, Vivienne, Vanessa, Maria Teresa, Maria Katharina, and Genevieve Lily.

Memorials may be made in Lily's name to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.

Visitation will be from 5:00 - 7:00 p.m. on Thursday, December 21, 2023 at Fitzgerald Funeral Home & Crematory, 1860 S. Mulford Rd. Rockford, IL 61108. Celebration of the Mass of Christian Burial will be at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, December 22, 2023, with visitation from 10:00 a.m. until time of Mass, located at St. Rita Catholic Church, 6254 Valley Knoll Drive, Rockford, IL 61109. Burial will conclude in Arlington Memorial Park.
