Lewis Edward “Lovable Lew” Blaising, 78, passed away peacefully surrounded by his family on December 7, 2020. Born July 13, 1942 in Fort Wayne, Indiana; son of Robert & Monica Blaising. Graduated from Notre Dame University in 1964. Owned his own insurance business, Lewis Blaising Insurance. Lew enjoyed his time in Florida as captain of the Leftovers Bocce Team, also playing in Rockford at the Verde, Venetian and St. Ambrose Clubs. He was an avid Chicago Bears and Cubs Fan. He will always be remembered for his unique sense of humor and quick wit and his ability to touch and connect with so many people throughout his life.
Survived by his loving, devoted wife, Barbara Blaising; children, Kelly (Karl) Mohrmann, Juliet (Rene) Ordogne, Suzanne Blaising (Craig Smith), Madeline (Bob) Smith, Stephen (Cynthia) Blaising, Margo Blaising (Warren Seidel) and step-daughter, Julie Hulstedt; 16 grandchildren; 5 great-grandchildren; sisters, Rita (Gary) Condensa and Anita (Harry) Delaney; a host of nieces and nephews and many dear friends in Rockford and Estro, Florida. Predeceased by his parents and granddaughter, Molly.
Visitation will be held from 1:00 p.m. – 3:00 p.m. on Friday, December 11, 2020 at Fitzgerald Funeral Home & Crematory, 3910 N. Rockton Avenue, Rockford, IL 61103. Masks and social distancing will be required for the visitation. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Northern Illinois Hospice, 4751 Harrison Avenue, Rockford, IL 61108.
