LeRoy “Lee” H. Baumgartner, 83, Rockford, passed away on Tuesday, July 13, 2021, in his home surrounded by his family. He was born in Thompson Township, Jo Daviess County, on September 8, 1937, the son of Bernard and Veronica (Berlage) Baumgartner. Lee served in the Army attaining the rank of Sergeant. He married Barbara Van Raalte in Freeport on September 30, 1961. Lee worked as a machine tool operator for Sundstrand Corporation for many years. After his retirement he worked part time at Home Depot. Lee and Barb loved being “home bodies” enjoying each other and time with their family. Barb was an amazing caregiver all thru Lee’s many health struggles. That love and care allowed Lee to stay in their home where he wanted to be. Lee cherished all animals and had many companions thru the years especially his faithful dog, Brandy, and his furry best friends, Ginger, who is 19 years old and Gracie, who is 9 years old. Special thanks to both Comfort Keepers, especially Lucy, and to Mercy Health Hospice for their kind and compassionate care.
Survived by his loving wife of almost 60 years, Barb; his daughters, Karla Baumgartner of Tolleson, AZ and Kathy (Michael) Will of Muscatine, IA; his grandchildren, Jake (Danielle) Will, Kyle Rhyne, Luke Will, and Kassie Rhyne; his great-grandchildren, Mya and Max; his special grand dog, Maddie; his sisters, Imelda Homan and Lucille Cabot, many nieces and nephews including his special nephew, Mark, and their dear friend, Terri. Predeceased by his parents, his brothers, Eugene and Cletus Baumgartner, and his sister, Dorothy Bagley.
Funeral services will be held at 1:00 P.M. Tuesday, July 20, 2021, at Fitzgerald Funeral Home and Crematory, Mulford Chapel, 1860 S. Mulford Rd. Rockford, with Reverend Dean Parker officiating.
