Leonard (Len) James Hamachek, age 91, of Rockford, Illinois, passed away peacefully April 5, 2023. Born July 3, 1931, in Edgebrook, Illinois, the son of the late Dr. Slavie Hamachek and Alice (Sejnoha) Hamachek. Graduate of Taft High School, Chicago, Illinois, class of 1949. He served his country in the United States Army from 1952 to 1954 and was deployed to Korea. He then went on to finish college and became President of TKE fraternity at Eureka College and graduated 1956. Married Joan M. Cribb September 22, 1957, in Waukegan, Illinois. Lived in Milwaukee, Wisconsin and Dayton, Ohio, before moving to Rockford in 1966. His career was mainly in Sales and he was quite exceptional in his profession. Was a member of Christ United Methodist Church. Len always cheered on the Cubs and the Bears and enjoyed time with his children, grandchildren, relatives and friends. Len was very proud of his Bohemian heritage, especially eating his favorite kolaches which was always a treat. Loved reading, woodworking, gardening, and fishing on a beautiful lake, particularly High Lake in Boulder Junction, Wisconsin. He has told many fish stories in his life and also loved to tell a good story about most anything. He is survived by his wife, Joan, of Rockford, Illinois, of 65 years; two sons, Scott (Karmen) Hamachek, Carmel, Indiana and Timothy Hamachek, Rockford, Illinois; daughter, Jennifer (Rob) Davidson, Carmel, Indiana; seven grandchildren, Amanda (Brandon) Penning, Anna Hamachek, Kristi Hamachek, Cassidy Davidson, Jacob Hamachek, Luke Hamachek, and Abby Hamachek; one nephew, Mark Ciekutis; two nieces, Lynn Lemke and Darlene Foy. Predeceased by his parents; sister, LaVerne Ciekutis; brothers, LeRoy Hamachek and Oliver Hamachek.
Funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, April 29, 2023 at Christ United Methodist Church, Rockford. Visitation will be from 10:00 a.m. to 10:45 a.m. prior to the service. Burial in Arlington Memorial Park.
