Leona A. Casey

Leona A. (Stokes) Casey, 96, of Rockford, IL, passed away Sunday, April 7, 2019 in her home, surrounded by loving family.

Leona was born February 4, 1923 in Hillsboro, IL, daughter of John W. and Roxiann (Owens) Stokes. She married James R. Casey December 12, 1953 in Rockford. Leona was a lifetime member of the Rockford VFW Post 5149. She enjoyed word search books, coloring, sewing, watching Jerry Springer and Judge Judy and was a huge fan of the Chicago Cubs. Leona had a great sense of humor and she loved taking care of her grandchildren. She will be dearly missed.

Surviving relatives include her children, Jeanelle (Melvin) Rill and Larry Paul Casey; grandchildren, Julie Jardine, Monica Whitmire, Calista (Joseph) Corbett, Trisha Biley and six others; 19 great-grandchildren; 6 great-great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews. She is predeceased by her parents; husband; sons, James W. Casey and Arthur Jardine; numerous brothers and sisters and a grandchild, Pamela Jardine.

A gathering of family and friends will be held from 11:00 AM – 1:00 PM on Saturday, April 13, 2019 at Fitzgerald Funeral Home & Crematory, Mulford Chapel, 1860 S. Mulford Rd., Rockford, IL 61108. Memorial contributions may be directed to the family of Leona Casey for a memorial to be established.
