Leon L. Sherard

Leon L. Sherard, 89, of Roscoe, passed away Thursday, May 4, 2017 in his home. Born July 9, 1927 in Rockford, the son of LeClair & Margaret (Reed) Sherard-Atwood. Graduated from West High School. He owned and operated John and Lee Sunoco, on the corner of Main and Auburn, for many years. He married Patricia Santee in Rockford, on April 25, 1948. He loved animals, in his younger years he used to show dogs and enjoyed horseback riding. He's an average Chicago Cubs, Bear and Blackhawks fan.

Survivors include daughter Kris Sherard; grandchildren Sunshine Sherard and Jasen (Heather) Sherard; great grandchildren Cimone (Derek) Murphree and Max Sherard; great great-granddaughter Charlie Rey Murphree; brother-in-law Neil (Rosemary) Santee; cousin James Reed; nephews David and Jimmie Santee and their children Christopher, Michael (Kristen), Ryan, Sarah and Jessica.
Predeceased by parents, loving wife Patricia and son Kurt.

The family would like to give a special thanks to the staff and all “his girls” at Jessica’s Family Restaurant in Roscoe.
