Lawrence N. (Larry) Moeller, 85 died February 7th, 2024, at 8:30pm. He was born August 23rd, 1938, in Moline, Illinois to Carl and Daisy (nee Moon) Moeller. Larry was a 1956 graduate of Rock Island High School, a 1972 graduate of Rock Valley College, a 1981 graduate of Northen Illinois University with a Bachelor of GS degree, and in 2003 became a Licensed Minister through Faith Center. In 1956 he enlisted in the U.S. Navy, obtaining the rank of Yeoman II, and was honorably discharged August 22, 1959, one day before his 21st birthday. Larry graduated from the Miami Florida Police Academy in September 1962 serving there as police officer until moving to Rockford, Illinois in 1963 where he served five years on the Rockford Police Department. In 1972, he was hired as an Illinois Adult Parole Officer where he served until his retirement in 1994. He held other positions after that as: Winnebago County Probation Officer; a LTM Kineteco water softener salesman; Manager of the Rockford Resue Mission Thrift shop (Keepers); and as a Ranger for 17 years at Aldeen Golf Course. Larry was a voracious reader and often read 2 or 3 books at a time. Until sidelined by arthritis, he was an avid golfer and shot a Hole in 1 at Aldeen hole #5 in 2005. As weather permitted, he spent many hours riding his recumbent 3-wheel bike and was also known for wearing his Hawaiian shirts. His greatest passion was for sharing the Gospel of Jesus Christ to the inmates of the Winnebago County Jail with the Rockford Reachout Jail Ministry, teaching Bible Studies, serving on the Board of Directors, assisting the Senior Chaplain in various duties, and as a Chaplain where he served.
