Lawrence “Larry” James Coogan, 66, was called home to the lord on January 21, 2020 after a courageous battle with cancer. He passed away peacefully at his home in Rockford, Illinois, surrounded by his beloved wife and caregiver Barb, and family. Larry was born on October 26, 1953, the son of James “Bill” William and Velma “Chick” (Munson) Coogan. He married Barbara Murray-Woodall on March 16, 2001. Larry worked as a machinist at Barber-Colman, Bourn & Koch, and numerous other jobs. Through the years he belonged to the Mustang club, 3 L Club, Moose Club, and the Knights of Columbus. He had a love of mustangs; he completely re-furbished a 1971 mustang and a 1973 mustang convertible. He shared many good times with his brothers, and his lifelong best friends, Danny and Niki. Larry truly enjoyed the time he spent with Kevin and Kitty on vacations, working on cars, going to car shows, car races, swap meets and auctions, and his “Irish” family and friends. Larry was loved by all and will be missed by all those he came in contact with, especially his loving wife and care giver, Barb.
Larry is survived by Barb, her daughter Kitty (Kevin) and her son Stan (Kathy), his sons William (Dawn), Michael (Nikki), and daughter, Andrea. He is further survived by grandsons, Cody and Clayton Coogan, Javier (Karla) Coogan Jimenez; great grandson Adriel, step grandson, Ryan, step granddaughters Jackie, Jessica, Felicia, Tiffany, Kristina; 5 step great grandchildren, special aunt Helen Reganti, Special Cousin Mary (Denny) Walrack and Special Family Danny (Niki) Hedberg; god daughter Laura and family, Matthew and family, and many nieces, nephews and cousins. He was predeceased by his parents; his brothers Jackie, Eugene, and Patrick; granddaughter Mikaela; niece Ashley and numerous aunts, uncles and cousins.
A visitation will take place for Larry on Friday, January 31, 2020 from 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at Fitzgerald Funeral Home & Crematory, 3910 North Rockton Avenue, Rockford, Illinois 61103. Visitation will continue February 1, 2020 at 10:00 a.m. until time of service at 11:00 a.m. at St. Mary's & St. Paul's Catholic Church, 224 Davis St, Mineral Point, WI 53565.
