Lawrence John Bushaw

Lawrence John Bushaw, 89, of Rockford died peacefully surrounded by family on October 8, 2013. Larry was born October 16, 1923 in Rockford; the son of Harry and Sansy (Lazzaro) Bushaw. He graduated from St. Thomas High School in 1942. He entered active service in the Army on August 17, 1943. He fought in Rhineland Central Europe and was honorably discharged as a sergeant on March 12, 1946. Lawrence married Leona Mary Harmacinski on May 17, 1947. They celebrated 66 years of marriage together and raised 4 children. Leona preceded Lawrence in death by 3 months, dying July 7, 2013. Larry worked as a cost accountant at Greenlee's nearly 40 years, retiring in 1986. He really enjoyed the daily card games with the guys during lunch. He enjoyed all forms of music; singing, dancing and playing the guitar, organ and brass. Much of his spare time was spent reading almanacs, trivia and history books. He was very active in the lives of his grandchildren; whether he was helping with homework, napping under the bed, beating them at basketball or hiking through the woods, Grandpa was always there!
Survived by son, David (MaryAnn) Bushaw of Rockford; daughters, Janet Hamer of Winnebago, Mary (John) Krueger of Rockford and Laura (Hans) Bloem of Thousand Oaks, CA; 6 grandsons, 5 granddaughters; 5great-grandsons. Predeceased by parents; sister, Frances; niece, Kathleen and nephew, James. The family would like to thank the staff at the Atrium and Transitions Hospice for their compassionate care.
Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:00 am on Monday, October 14, 2013 in St. Edward Catholic Church, 3004 11th St. Visitation from 9:00 am until the time of Mass.
