LaVon B. Jurgensen, 85, of Rockford, died Friday, March 26, 2010 at the Ogle Co. Hospice Serenity Home, after complications of a stroke. Born Nov. 11, 1924 in Guttenberg, IA., daughter of Norbert and Alma (Knuth) Nieland. Attended St. Marys School in Guttenberg, IA. In spite of the fact that she quit school in 9 th grade, there was much more to LaVon than met the eye. Married her loving husband, Harold F. Jurgensen on Nov. 11, 1946 in Clinton, IA. Together they owned and ran a farm in Guttenberg and worked hand in hand until his sudden passing on July 19, 1977. She was a hard worker, loyal, kind, very giving and had a dry sense of humor. Her hobbies include; quilting, sewing, canning, making jams and jellies, cooking, rug making, crocheting, gardening, flowers and vegetables and reading. The family would like to give a special thank you to the staff on the 3rd and 4 th floor at OSF St. Anthony Medical Center, her second family at OSF Lifeline Ambulance, where she was known as mom, and the staff at Ogle County Hospice Serenity Home. Survivors include her daughter, Sandra K. Smith of Rockford; son, Dale (Karla) Jurgensen of Byron; sister-in-law, Fern Todtz and Ardelle (Tom) Wiebers both of Comanche, IA; several nieces and nephews and special friends, Sue and Mike Barton of Rockford and Carole and Todd Haas of Pecatonica. Preceded in death by her husband, parents, brother and sister-in-law, Norbie (Donna M. Kann) Nieland; a brother in infancy; sisters/brothers-in-law, Thera (Russell) Nelson, Arlene (John) Schurbon, Lawrence Todtz; 4 nieces and 2 nephews. Funeral Services Monday, March 29 at 7 p.m. at Fitzgerald Funeral Home, Mulford Chapel (1860 S. Mulford Rd., Rockford). Visitation from 5-7 p.m. in the funeral home. Interment, Tuesday, March 30 in Guttenberg, IA at 1:00 p.m. at St. Mary Cemetery. Memorials to: Ogle County Hospice Serenity Home, 1658 S. Illinois Rt. 2, 61061.
