LaVerne G. Lenstrom, 80, lifelong Rockford resident, died Sunday, October 12, 2014 in Swedish American Hospital. Born October 6, 1934, son of Vernie A. and Lucy McNeal Lenstrom. Married Ruth Brown at her parent's home on September 18, 1959. Veteran of the U.S. Army, having served in Germany. Employed by Borg-Warner (Mechanics) for many years. Member of Cathedral Baptist Church, where he served as Deacon. LaVerne grew up on a farm and always continued his love of farming, gardening and fishing. He was an avid Packer fan and cherished times with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Survivors include his children, Phil Lenstrom, Mark Lenstrom, Paula (Kenneth) Loos and Tonya (Andy) Brouer; 8 grandchildren; 7 great-grandchildren with another one expected soon; sisters, Shirley (Harry) Russell and Darlene Halverson. Predeceased by his wife, Ruth on August 20, 2013, 2 sisters and a brother.
A funeral service will be held at 3:00 p.m. Sunday, Octocber 19, 2014 in Fitzgerald Funeral Home & Crematory, Riverside Chapel, 3910 N. Rockton Ave. with Andy Brouer and Pastor Tom Freeman officiating. Burial in Kishwaukee Cemetery. Visitation from 1:00 p.m. until time of service on Sunday. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the family.
