Larry S. Lighthall, 53, of Rockford passed away Wednesday, April 2, 2014, at Serenity Home & Hospice, after a courageous battle with cancer. Born June 16, 1960, in Rockford, the son of Calvin and Carolyn (Reeser) Lighthall. He graduated from Guilford High School and went on to earn a Master's degree in Accounting from University of Iowa. Larry married Dawn Estelle Fiedler on September 15, 1984. He worked as a CPA for the past 17 years at Armoloy Corp. in Dekalb as well as consulting for Absolute Fire Protection in Rockford. Larry was an avid golfer, puzzle builder and loved to travel with Dawn. He coached basketball at Ken-Rock Community Center and Flodin Boys & Girls Club for many years. His coaching extended to all ages, from teaching 4 & 5 year olds fundamentals to coaching traveling teams. Most of all, Larry loved spending time with his family and friends. The Lighthall family would like to give a special thank you to Dr. Khattak and SwedishAmerican Regional Cancer Center and to the Serenity Home & Hospice staff.
Survived by his wife, Dawn Estelle; sons, Rick (Jessica) Lighthall and Brad (Stefanie Eis) Lighthall; parents, Calvin and Carolyn; siblings, Ron Lighthall, Dian (Tom) Nealey, Cindy (Charles) Rodberg, Dawn Elaine (Mike) Enevoldsen, Tanya (Dan) Wolfe; numerous nieces and nephews and many special friends.
A memorial gathering will be held from 9:30 a.m. until noon on Saturday, April 5, 2014 at Calvary Memorial Church, 2715 North Alpine Road, to be followed by a private family celebration. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the family for a memorial to be established in Larry's name at a later date. Per Larry's wishes, he chose to have his body donated to Northern Illinois University for educational research. Fitzgerald Funeral Home & Crematory, Mulford Chapel, assisted the family.
