Larry R. Gilbertson

Larry R. Gilbertson, 76, passed away Thursday, August 29, 2024, surrounded by his loving family. He was born on January 28, 1948, in Galena, the son of Robert and Pauline (Simmons) Gilbertson. Larry was a graduate from Harlem High School, class of 1966. He was a veteran of the Marine Corps serving as an aviation electrician working on the F4 Phantom during the Vietnam War. Larry married Nancy Lungo in Galena on April 18, 1986. Larry worked as an electrician for both Amerock Corporation and the Sanitary District for over 35 years, retiring in 2010. He never really retired completely as he was always helping others with their electrical problems. He was a longtime member of the Cathedral of St. Peter. Larry and Nancy enjoyed long road trips together, traveling the country to sights from coast to coast. Larry was the Patriarch of the Gilbertson family. Most of all he loved spending time with family. 

Survived by his loving wife, Nancy; his children, Michael Gilbertson, Gina Gilbertson, Anna (Ryne) Billesbach and Guy Gilbertson; his grandchildren, Gianna Gilbertson, Brady and Charlie Billesbach who call him “Bompa”; his sister, Michelle (Tim) DeVlieger; his sister-in-law, Janet Gilbertson; numerous cousins, nieces and nephews. Predeceased by his parents and his brother, Dan Gilbertson.

Funeral Mass will be held at 11:00 A.M. on Friday, September 6, 2024, at the Cathedral of St. Peter, 1243 N. Church St. with Reverend Kenneth Anderson officiating. Visitation will be held from 9:00 A.M. until 10:45 A.M. on Friday at the church. Arrangements by Fitzgerald Funeral Home and Crematory, Mulford Chapel, 1860 s. Mulford Rd. Rockford.
