Larry Douglas "Doug" Messer

Larry Douglas “Doug” Messer, 76, Rockford, passed away Sunday, January 27, 2019, in his home surrounded by his loving family after a 14 year battle with Dementia. He was born November 16, 1942, in Oregon, IL, the son of Kenneth and Mildred (Pettinger) Messer. Doug married SanDee Jorgensen in Polo on June 21, 1964. He worked as a lithographer for many years working the last 10 years for Lifetouch until his retirement. Doug enjoyed spending time with his family and coached his sons and grandsons in their baseball and basketball teams.
Survived by his loving wife of 54 years, SanDee; his children, Amy (Brandon Beckman) Ogden of Monroe Center, Kirk (Claudia) Messer of Milwaukee, WI, and Darrell (Amy) Messer of South Elgin; his grandchildren, Tyler Schmittel, Noah(Morgan) Beck, Abbie (Michael Lafferty) Beck, Gabriel and Isabella Messer, Melissa and Ethan Messer, Elijah and Nathan Beck; his son-in-law, Les (Diane) Beck of Rockton; his brother, Richard “Arnie” (Betty) Messer; his sister, Linda (Clarence) Bechtold; his sisters-in-law, Thelma and Audrey Messer, Connie (Gary) Anderson; many nieces and nephews and special friends, Dave and Mary Jane Warkins and Jennifer and Jerry Baldwin. Predeceased by his daughter, Michelle Beck, his parents, his siblings, Kenneth, Bill, Glen, Charles, Darrell, James, and Tom Messer. Special thanks to Northern Illinois Hospice especially Vicki, Jacinda, and Carly for their comfort and care.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 A.M. Monday, February 4, 2019, at Fitzgerald Funeral Home and Crematory, Mulford Chapel, 1860 S. Mulford Rd. Rockford with Pastor Billy Cheatum officiating. Burial in Sunset Memorial Gardens Cemetery. Visitation will be from 2:00 P.M. until 4:00 P.M. on Sunday, February 3, 2019, at the funeral home and again from 10:00 A.M. until time of service on Monday.
