Laila E Henry

Laila E. Henry, 86, of Rockford passed away May 14, 2015 surrounded by her family. Born March 20, 1929 the daughter of Augusta and Helia (Peterson) Takala. Married Merlyn Henry on her birthday in 1948 and lived happily together for 46 years. She loved bingo, slot machines and singing karaoke. Laila sang over the radio in the 1950’s and won her first singing contest at the age of 5. She worked for Amerock for 10 years and entertained them by singing country western songs at their picnics and Christmas Parties. Survived by her children, Tina Dawsey and Mark Henry; sister, Velma Penney and her K9 companion, Cody. Preceded in death by her husband, 4 brothers and 2 sisters.
Memorial service Thursday, May 21 at 10:30 a.m. at Fitzgerald Funeral Home and Crematory, Riverside Chapel 3910 N. Rockton Ave with visitation from 9:30 - 10:30 a.m. In lieu of flowers memorials to the family.
