Kristofer Garmager Sr., 93, of Rockford passed away Sunday, February 24, 2019 at Swedish American Hospital. Born September 21, 1925 in Norway; the son of Conrad and Gudrun (Bjoergen) Garmager. He married Sonya Johnson on October 18, 1947 in Rockford.
Kristofer immigrated from Norway to the U.S 90 years ago and was a proud Veteran of the U.S. Marine Corp, having served his country during WWII. He is an alumnus of the University of Chicago, where he earned his Bachelor and Master’s degrees; Magna Cum Laude. Kristofer retired from Willowbrook High School in Villa Park, Illinois, after 36 years of employment. He was a lifetime member of the Sons of Norway and a former member of the Illinois Federation of Teachers.
An avid Chicago Bears fan, Kristofer enjoyed reading, golf and most of all, spending time with his family.
Survivors include his sons, Kristofer (Linda) Garmager Jr. and Timothy Garmager; grandchildren Matthew, Mariana, Douglas (Katie), Emily, Britton, Travis and Tricia; great-granddaughters, Savannah and Lillian and his sister, Gladys Veidemanis.
Kristofer was predeceased by his parents and his wife, Sonya Garmager.
Funeral Service 11 a.m. Saturday, March 2, 2019 at Fitzgerald Funeral Home & Crematory, Mulford Chapel, 1860 S. Mulford Rd., Rockford. Visitation 10 a.m. until time of service at the funeral home. Interment in Arlington Memorial Park Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to the Sons of Norway, Valhall Lodge #5-168, c/o 932 Manchester Street, Naperville, IL 60563, in memory of Kristofer and Conrad Garmager, to be awarded a local scholarship recipient.
