Koll Harring, 90, Rockford, died at 3:45 p.m. Friday, July 2, 2010 in OSF St. Anthony Medical Center. Born July 1, 1920 in Lillesand, Norway, son of Albert and Aasine Bergitte Salvesen Andersson. Married Gudrun Hjertnes in 1942 and she predeceased him in 1962. He then married Doris Larson Nimmo in 1964 and she also predeceased him in 1998. Retired from J.L. Clark Company in 1982 after being employed there for 35 years. Long time member of Zion Lutheran Church. Koll had an interesting history due in part to the fact that he began a sailing apprenticeship in Norway at age 15. He sailed all over the world and had many fascinating experiences. This was interrupted by WWII when he had to spend time in Forced Labor Camps. He was able to immigrate to the United States in 1947 and became a proud citizen in 1954. In 1957 he became a member of the Harmony Singing Society and was still a member today. He was an accomplished artist who painted many pictures. Koll was a very interesting man and a wonderful story-teller with many stories to tell. Survivors include his sons, Paul (Carla) Harring and Allan Harring; step-sons, Tom (Maryann) Nimmo and Bob (Georgiann) Nimmo; grandson, Steve (Crystal) Harring; granddaughters, Tamara (Douglas) Taylor and Amy (Christopher) Vincer. Also survived by his step-grandchildren, Bob (Laurie) Nimmo, Jr, Sue (Jamie) Middleton, Heather (Tim) Deming, Tom (Kari) Nimmo; great-grandchildren, Kelsey, Stephanie and Lucas, Katie and Allison, Jacob and Emma, Austin and Abbey, Jennifer, Robin and Brett, Isabelle and Hayden and Helena and Sophie; many nieces and nephews in Norway and his special friend and companion, Ruthie McNiff. Also predeceased by his daughter, Greta Pettersen; grandson, David Harring; brother, Finn Harring and sisters, Dotta Hanson and Ogot Konradsen. Memorial service at 11 a.m, Friday, July 9, 2010 in Fitzgerald Funeral Home & Crematory, Mulford Chapel, 1860 S. Mulford Rd. with Pastor Gary Larson officiating. Burial in Scandinavian Cemetery.
