Kenneth L. Alfrey, 73, started on his next and greatest adventure after his passing on August 31, 2023. He was born in Rockford, Illinois on September 24, 1949, son to Jay Oliver and Elsie (Johnson) Alfrey. A 1967 graduate of Guilford High School, Ken went on to join the U.S. Army in 1970 during the Vietnam War. Five months later, Ken and Mari Currie decided to embark on their lifelong adventures together and wed on June 6, 1970. Ken was a hard-working man, he started at JC Penny in their stock room, 22 years later he left as a store manager. He then decided to explore working for Sherwin-Williams and retired as a Divisional Account Manager after 28 years. Throughout his life, Ken practiced a motto “you can’t out give God.” He was very active at Christ the Rock Lutheran Church, becoming the president of the congregation for three terms, and passionately supporting the preschool. In his personal life, he made sure to instill in his family that life is meant to be an adventure spent together. For over 30 years, every Sunday his kids and grandkids came for supper, and if there was an opportunity to take an adventure, they took it. When at home Ken diligently took care of the yard and was exceptionally proud of his koi fish that ate out of your hand and the pond he and his son-in-law dug together.
He will be missed by those who loved him most, his wife of 53 years, Mari; his daughters Jennifer Reader and Jessica (Nathan) Grove; grandchildren, TJ, Kylie, Kenton, Tyler, Logan and Abigail; great granddaughter Austyn Kate Alfrey; his nephew, Brian Malcomson.
